New England Modernism: Revolutionary Architecture in the 20th Century

Burr & Burton Academy

This documentary traces the origins of the modern movement in one of America's most tradition-bound regions, uncovering the bold experiments that still stand today. From celebrated masters to overlooked local pioneers, the film profiles the architects who dared to reimagine how New Englanders lived, balancing the region's deep conservatism with a restless progressive spirit. What emerged was something extraordinary: a postwar design renaissance that produced landmark works and transformed New England into one of the world's great destinations for modern architecture. Filmmakers Jake Gorst and Tracey Rennie Gorst will introduce the film.
